Welcome

Welcome to the first issue of Burning Lit!

Since Phoenix Rising Promotions opened its doors on April 2, 2008, it has been a whirlwind of excitement. From the very first author I have been creating paperwork to make the job easier on everybody and constant emailing trying to set up chats, plus getting to know the vendors that do the bookmarks, banners, and websites. Between creating yahoo loops and pulling excerpts; researching contest prizes and planning contests it has been very exciting and I am blessed to now have the greatest authors to work for and with! I never thought I would own my own company. I never thought that it would take off the way it has or be nearly as much fun.

The authors of PRP are a wide and varied group, spanning the erotica genre. These authors keep us busy and on our toes. Each PRP newsletter will have information about upcoming items for our authors as well as offering a hot excerpt from one author’s new work, a few recipes contributed by the authors, and a monthly advice area for them to share interesting items PRP thinks fans will be engaged by.

Enjoy the newsletter and here’s too many, many more issues of Burning Lit!

Advice from the Duchess of Depravity

A couple days ago, a friend emailed me. A fellow she'd been corresponding with began calling her Mistress, and said he was her slave. My friend is not into true BDSM, though like many of us, she's played a few of the minor games most of us don't associate with BDSM. She asked me to define BDSM and give her some advice. As a retired Domme, I've been asked this many times before.

Therefore, I decided it might be best if I posted my (much simplified) definitions. Please keep in mind I'm not trying to explain all of BDSM. That would take a book, and there are plenty out there already written. One of the best IMHO is "Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns." ISBN: 0964596008 Amazon.com has it. While not absolutely definitive --and it doesn't claim to be-- it does cover quite a bit.

So here's my short version and advice to those who find themselves in my friend's situation.

“BDSM is a very short acronym covering many kinky areas of sex. I'll give you the whole thing, and then break it down for you. Bear with me.

Bondage-Discipline-Dominance-Submission-Sado-Masochism.

Bondage and Discipline is the most common form of BDSM. If you've ever played "tie me up baby," or "spankings," you've indulged in this mild form of kink. Any "capture the maiden" role play can also fall into this category.

Dominance and Submission is the next most common form of BDSM. This kink sounds like what your friend wants to play. He has put you in the role of Dominant (female title is Domme, male is Dom, for your reference.) He wishes to be the submissive one. Please note most of the time this kink is abbreviated to D/s. The submissive is *always* referred to without capitalization, even his given name. He becomes "harry" or "tom", not Harry or Tom. His short title is "subbie", "sub", or "slave." Since he wishes to be a slave, then he has chosen the most extreme form of D/s. I caution you to be wary. Unless you've always wanted complete and absolute control of a person's life, as well as responsibility for them, this is not something you want to get into. He'll even ask you for permission to go to the bathroom, and want you to decide what he's allowed to eat or wear! (I'll go into this more in a minute.)

The last form of BDSM is the most extreme- Sado-Masochism. This pain play frightens so many and is the most famous. This is where you get the whip-wielding Dominant beating the submissive. Without specialized training, you can hurt someone or even kill him or her. Fortunately, this kink is rare, and practiced only by a select few. I caution you away from it.

Now back to your "slave." I am highly concerned because you haven't mentioned the two most important safety features of BDSM- the limits list and the safe word. Both you and your slave should each fill out this list. You can find them on the Internet by the thousands. Choose one that is organized, and has several pages at least. This list details what each of you are willing to do, might do with trust and time, and finally what you won't do under any circumstances. The list is very long and involves many terms you may not know. (If you don't know what the term means, say NO.)

The safe word is even more important. The most common form of "safe word" is actually three words -- the stoplight colors of green, yellow, and red. Saying green means he likes what you're doing and please continue. Saying yellow means he's a little uncomfortable with your actions and you should change to something else but continue playing. Red means "stop all forms of play right now, the scenario is over, and/or we may have a serious problem." (A serious problem could be something dangerous, like choking or simply extreme discomfort with the play.) Some people use one uncommon word you don't hear in ordinary conversation, like "hippopotamus" or something. This word simply means, "I'm done/I've orgasmed/we can stop playing now."

Some folks like having a slave. I'm not one of them, so keep this in mind. It may seem very pleasant at first to have a slave around the house to keep it tidy, cook meals, and serve your every whim. However, this also means you are responsible for this person and they look to you for every decision. Some won't even pay their bills or bathe without your orders or permission. He'll even ask permission to orgasm, and some *can't* orgasm without permission.

Your slave will expect you to collar him in some manner. If he is not to be a full-time, 24/7 slave who lives with you, this collar will have to be something unobtrusive like a thick, heavy gold chain he can pass off as jewelry. If he lives with you, he may even expect to be kept naked and wear a large dog collar. Some slaves even like to be leashed or caged. You'll have to find out what he wants by using the limits list.

Keep in mind Domination is a sham. The Dominant in truth serves the needs of the submissive. The sub's wishes/fantasies are fulfilled by the Dominant, and any of the Dominant's fantasies must be within the limits of the sub's requirements.

I urge extreme caution on your part. He's jumped into this play without asking for limits lists, and without negotiation of any kind, not even a safe word. This is bad news for you. It means he's clueless, a nut case, or it's a trap to snag the unwary and innocent. If you're liking what is happening, then put a screeching halt to all play until he's fulfilled your "orders" to fill out the limits list in its entirety, supplied you with safe words, and negotiated fully with you what he really wants.

Be uncompromising here. Don't let him do a half-assed job on that limits list, or follow your orders less than perfectly and completely. If he can't show the patience and obedience to follow orders and play safely, then run like hell as far away as possible.

As a final note of caution, if you’ve not met the person face-to-face, do so in a very public place and have a secret witness. For instance, have a friend in the coffee shop sitting at another table. Under no circumstances leave alone with this person without having met with them several times. Also, when you do choose to meet with this person privately, use a cell to give a safety person his/her car license number, the address where you’ll be, and set up a time and code words in advance. Code words should be able to be used in ordinary conversation. “We’re having a marvelous time!” can mean, “all is well.” Whereas, “we’re fine” means the situation is not good and you need rescue.”

Play safe, and all will be well.

Excerpt of the Month

Excerpt of Dawn Montgomery's
Own Me

"What are you doing, love?"  Leon's voice dripped with sensuality.

Anna felt her body kick into overdrive.  Her heart raced, but she tried to control her breathing.

He smacked her ass bringing a piercing sting followed by beautiful heat.  Anna cried out.  He ran his fingers over the hot spot.

Her pussy throbbed, wanting him to fill her body, take her need for control away.  "I thought we were done."  Her excitement gave her voice a breathless quality.

Leon kissed the still stinging area.

Anna arched her back and moaned.

"Oh no."  She could hear the smile in his voice.  "Not yet."

Joke of the Month

New Born Baby!

This man and woman have been together for three years and engaged for two.  However they have pledged to each other that they would not have sex until their wedding night.

The woman warns the man that she is flat as a board, her A cups are stuffed with extra padding.  The man comforts his love and replies “That’s okay, because I’m hung like a new born baby.”  Feeling better the subject is dropped.

A few months later the couple is on their honey moon and the woman strips.  She says “I told you I was flat as a board.”  He says “That’s okay I love you anyway.”  So she goes over to her new husband and helps him with his pants.  She jumps back screaming.  “You lied to me!  You said you were hung like a new born baby!”  The guy looked down not really understanding what was wrong and said “Yeah 21 inches long…8 pounds 9 ounces.”
